How to Get a Game in the Store?

More specifically, how to get us to stock a game you would like us to carry.

For a new game, the best way to ensure we stock it in is to pre-order it. It amazing me how few pre-orders we get for games, so we're left ordering blind when we look at the list of 200 new games jockeying for shelf space each month. Since we're investing money in each of these games we stock, we're going to err on the side of caution when putting in our orders. That means a lot of very worthy games get bypassed since we have no idea whether anyone will purchase it or not.

For example, we will pass on Cipher Studio's Hell Dorado line of miniatures because, while they look very cool, I have had exactly no-body ask if we were carrying them or shown any interest in them.

Cathay: The Five Kingdoms Gamemaster’s Guide

$ 34.99 SRP

MGP8210

Cities of the Young Kingdoms 1: The South

$ 24.99 SRP

For centuries, the lands of the west have been enthralled by tales about the mystical province of Cathay. Far to the East, this mysterious place has always been a symbol of intrigue and wonder. Now, the door to the East is open. From the lightning-born storm children, to the renowned Xan monks, Cathay’s secrets can finally be explored by those brave enough to venture into this troubled, war-torn realm.

The Cathay: The Five Kingdoms Gamemaster’s Guide is a sourcebook for Earthdawn Third Edition, containing everything a gamemaster needs for running adventures in the Five Kingdoms of Cathay— extensive setting material, guidelines for creating adventures and campaigns, information on creatures, dragons, Horrors, spirits, magical treasures, and much more! Requires use of the Earthdawn Player’s and Gamemaster’s Guides.

Alorasaz: frozen city of fur trappers, loggers and miners, deep in Lormyr's wintery southlands. A peaceful place on the surface, but beneath lurk tensions and fears as two competing families struggle to control Alorasaz's wealth. And what of Castle Kaneloon, standing on the very edge of the world? Does the Lady Myshella not exert an influence over sleepy Alorasaz?

Raschil: the bustling, civilised port city of Filkhar, a cosmopolitan place where many nations rub shoulders in the countless taverns and inns. But a city with its own secrets too: why, for instance, has the Queen not been seen for months when, once, she was society's doyenne?

Ryfel: built from black granite and mud-brick on Pikarayd's wild and treacherous northern coast: a city of pirates and reavers, and a meeting place for the barbaric clans of the interior. Ryfel attracts the proponents of Chaos and Disorder; sorcerers, murderers and dark cultists; thieves, fugitives and feuding clansmen. Pan Tang holds court here; but are the Pikaraydian chieftains as enthralled as Pan Tang believes them to be?

Volume One of 'Cities of the Young Kingdoms' explores three, very different cities of the Young Kingdoms' southern continent. Each city is described in detail with maps, locations, personalities, game statistics and dozens of adventure hooks. The cities can be used as standalone backdrops for Elric of Melnibone games, bases for adventurers, or as part of the mini-campaign that threads between them and joins them together.

Welcome to the southern lands...

Gamemastering

$29.99 SRP

MGP3853

Supplement 8: Cybernetics

$ 24.99 SRP

Gamemastering. No other task is as unpopular in a roleplaying group. Very often, it is the gamemaster who ends up doing all the work so everyone can enjoy the game. But the job of gamemaster is at least as exciting and unpredictable as taking on the role of a player character.

When comparing gamemasters, it becomes obvious that some are better at their task than others–which is why rumors that one has to be “born to be a gamemaster” stubbornly persist. This book does away with this preconception and provides both beginning and experienced gamemasters with instructions that are usually neglected in roleplaying game books. How to tailor the game to the group? How to prepare a game in no time? Can one learn to improvise? How to create and structure adventures?

These and other questions are answered in a detailed manner including directions, exercises, and examples. Enjoyment always comes first–roleplaying is supposed to be fun and not turn into too much work. Not even for the gamemaster.

Designed for all Traveller settings, Cybernetics puts the Cyber into cyberpunk. Whether you are looking at a setting based around technological enhancements, or just wanting to build your character up with a few augments, Cybernetics is for you.

With full rules for turning man into machine, Cybernetics is suitable for creating a war-grade killing machine festooned with internal weaponry and defenses, or a sleek agent with the very latest enhancements and upgrades. You can now fine tune your character into an absolute master in their chosen profession.

Wraith Recon

$ 39.99 SRP

MGP8191

RQ2: the Abiding Book

$39.99 SRP

An original new setting for RuneQuest II, Wraith Recon transports the players into new roles and terrible responsibilities.

The Kingdom of Dardarrick is beset on all fronts. To the east, open warfare with the Republic of Lorn has claimed tens of thousands of lives over the past decade and trenches now run parallel to the border, uprooting towns and villages in their wake. To the south, Lorn’s ally, the Kingdom of Torres constantly threatens overt military action, and has been implicated in many raids on nearby towns as the nation reaches a fever pitch of religious hatred. The wildlands to the west and north are home to goblinoids, ogres and giants, who must be constantly beaten back as they encroach on Dardarrick territory. And even within Dardarrick itself, evil lurks as the followers of the deposed theocrat Tomarsson plot their fanatical return to power.

Players take the role of the legendary Wraith Recon units, dedicated special forces trained and equipped to operate far from the rest of the army. Entrusted with the most dire missions, the Wraiths are capable of overcoming almost any obstacle. Armed with the latest in Dardarrick magicks, and kept informed by the mysterious Spellcom system, Wraith Recon units are tasked with assassinations, raids, reconnaissance, and hostage rescue missions, in the name of truth, liberty and justice.

The Abiding Book is the most sacred of all God Learner scriptures. Written by the hand of the Invisible God himself it documents the mythical history of the Malkioni, prescribes the nature of worship, truth and heresy, and forms the basis for all sorcery grimoires in use and at large across the Middle Sea Empire.

It defines the God Learners; guides them, informs them and sometimes, misleads them. It may be the most powerful accumulation of mythical knowledge anywhere in Glorantha: it may also be the most dangerous. The Abiding Book for Second Age Glorantha is a highly detailed overview of the Middle Sea Empire: its people, its territories and dominions, its hopes, schemes and ambitions, its myths and its magic. Within these pages you will find a wealth of information concerning every aspect of God Learnerism. From descriptions of its great cities through to profiles of its psychology. The nature of sorcery and the empire's approach to it is examined and the book offers more spells, new grimoires and new sorcery orders to fuel God Learner campaigns.

With this book you have everything you need to explore the Middle Sea Empire and create compelling God Learner characters.

Planet Stories: Hunt the Space-Witch! (Seven Adventures in Time and Space)

$15.99 SRP

Science-fiction legend Robert Silverberg reflects on some of his earliest, least-reprinted tales in this new Planet Stories collection! Between 1956 and 1958, Silverberg contributed dozens of short stories and novellas to the digest pulps, each written in the bombastic, high-adventure style of the original Planet Stories magazine. Since then, those tales have re-appeared only rarely (and sometimes never again) in long out-of-print paperback anthologies.

This volume, the first of three to come this year, features seven hard-to-find classic Silverberg novellas:

  • Slaves of the Star Giants
  • Spawn of the Deadly Sea
  • The Flame and the Hammer
  • Valley Beyond Time
  • Hunt the Space-Witch!
  • The Silent Invaders
  • Spacerogue

Never before collected in a single edition, these stories reveal the early action-packed tales of one of speculative fiction's most important voices!

OSPFGR002

FoG-R: Trade and Treachery

$24.95 SRP

Paperback; 96 pages; The 357th Fighter Group produced 42 aces, more than any other group within the USAAF. It was also the first group in the Eighth Air Force to be equipped with the P-51. Thanks to this fighter and the talented pilots assigned to the group (men such as Bud Anderson, Kit Carson, John England and Chuck Yeager) the 357th achieved a faster rate of aerial victories than any other Eighth Air Force group during the final year of the war. It also claimed the highest number of aerial kills – 56 – in a single mission. The group was awarded two Distinguished Unit Citations (the unit equivalent of the Medal of Honor). Written by Chris Bucholtz, this book is crammed full of first-hand accounts, superb photography and some of the most colorful profiles to be found in World War II aviation.

Paperback; 116 pages; While the Renaissance was a time of innovation and inspiration in art, literature and science, so too was it a period of military progress. From the rise of gunpowder as a battlefield-dominating weapon to the tactical genius of Machiavelli, the Italian Wars were the first step on this journey. With detailed army lists, historical overviews, maps and artwork, Trade and Treachery provides aspiring condottieri with everything they need to take over the armies of the Italian City States, and of the European powers of the 16th century, and lead them to glory.

French Tanks of World War I

$17.95 SRP

Paperback; 48 pages; This title examines the emergence of the first modern tank, the Renault FT. It is a little known fact that France fielded more tanks in World War I than any other army. However, France's early tanks suffered from poor mobility and armor compared to their contemporaries. Indeed, their initial use on the Chemin des Dames in 1917 was a bloody fiasco. In spite of initial set-backs, the French army redeemed its reputation with the Renault FT.
