Halloween Drawing

 You can still get tickets for Sunday's Halloween Drawing. Just come in and we will give you one ticket. You get a second one for wearing a Castle perilous shirt and a third if you are in costume. Show us your Preferred Customer card and get another one. Tag us on social media for another ticket and get one for each stamp you earn tomorrow on a Castle Card. Drawing is live on FB at 4 p.m. so get your tickets before then.

Also trick or treating for candy and comics all day as well as the yu Gi Oh Burst of Destiny Premier event.

No Causal Magic Commander tomorrow but you can pre-pay for Pokemon Fusion Strike or Magic Crimson Vow.

Army Painter

 OUr suppliers have notified us that Army Painter has increased its prices so, as we get items in from the company with the new pricing, ours will increase as well.

Carbondale Halloween Saturday

  Carbondale Main Street will host its downtown Trick or Treat on Main Street this Saturday from noon to 2 pm. Here is a link to the list of places particpating. Looks like about 26 locations with the Carbondale Public Library the furthest west and Italian Village the furthest east. 

Trick or treaters do not have to go inside to get candy. Each location will have a table outside stocked with bags of candy  which Carbondale Main Street will replenish during the event.

In addition, if trick or treaters come inside the store, they can get candy and a comic book. To avoid crowding, we will ask that people exit through the rear door and down the steps, unless they  have a stroller or walker.

We will host Halloween Comicfest all day as well. Come in and get two free comics, 1 more if in costume, 1 with your prefered customer card, 1 if you wear a Castle Perilous t-shirt and one for each stamp you get on your Castle Card.

Fizban's Treasury of Dragons

 Fizban's Treasury of Dragons arrived today. We have both the regular cover, for those of you that want a matched set, and the alternative cover, for those of  you that like the shiney cover. instock.

This is the most anticpated book we have seen this year as we had 7 people pre-order it and have sold a couple of copies to walkins. No copies of the alternate cover sold yet though.

Pokemon Celebrations Ultimate Kit

 After filling pre-orders, we have one copy of the Pokemon Ultimate Celebration Trainers Kit left. I fyou want one, it is $299.99, about $50 to $300 cheaper than the asking price online.

We will start playing Pokemon on Saturdays from 10:30 to noon tomorrow.

Car Wars

 Received the 6th edition of Car Wars today (and people complain about 5 editions of D&D). Nice big box. We have 3 copies of the game at $124.99 and 1 of each of the add ons available as well. The game is supposed to go into distribuiton eventually but the add ons are a one shot. Also, if you buy a copy of the game, leave your contact info as SJG shipped them missing some counters which we are supposed to receive later.

Trades

 Just a reminder that we will not do any large trades after 8 p.m. If you bring in a single card or a few RPG books for us to look at, that is fine. however, if you bring in a whole stack of books or boxes full of cards after 8 p.m wanting to trade anything, we will ask you to either leave them until the following day or bring them back before 8 p.m. the next day. By 8 p.m we are getting ready to start cleaning up and closing for the day and would not be able to give your trades an appropriate amount of attention.

Pokemon Release Updates

 Appears that some Pokemon releases will be delayed.

Battle Style Wave 3 boosters should be here any day.  Chilling Reign Wave 2 should be about the first week of November and Evolving Skies Wave 2 should be middle of November.

NDPK80941 – Celebrations Collectors Chest, is currently being delayed from its 10/22 release to a late November release due to delays in components being delivered to them.  Waves 2 and 3 are being postponed to a Q1 2022 release

NDPK80912 – Urshifu VMAX Battle Deck is being delayed from its November release to 12/3/21 due to component delays.

NDPK80903 – Dragonite/Hoopa V Box is being delayed from its 11/12/21 release date to 12/3/21 as well.

NDPK80915 – Celebrations Pikachu V Union Box is still delayed from its 10/8 release, due to a quality problem with components.

Pokemon Play Moving

 Pokemon play is moving from Monday night to Saturday morning starting this Saturday at 1:30 am to 12:30 p.m. With Isaiah moving to a new job, we decided to move it to a more school friendly time slot so that parents did not have to worry about their kids coming here on a school night.

Used Boardgames

 Just got in a stack of used boardgames including 51st State, Eldrich Horror (with 8 expansions), Nightfall (with 5 expansions), Lords of Waterdeep and Terraforming Mards Big Box. All back in the used section.

SIUC Homecoming

  SIUC Homecoming parade starts at 10 a.m. tomorrow, although lineup of floats and bands starts at 8 a.m. The line up of floats and bands will fill up S. Washington and East Mill so be sure to avoid that area the morning of the 16. The acual parade Starts at Mill and Illinois, goes up Mill to College, left on College to University then down University to the Univeristy grounds. I heard some talk of the parade going an extra block up to Cherry and then over to University so you may want to avoid that area until noon.

Fall D&D Book Prepayment

 Just a reminder that if you prepay for the D&D books coming out this fall, you get a  D&D notebook with graph paper pages and pockets for spell cards. Limited quantities of books so while they last, get one notebook for each of the D&D books you prepay.

Pokemon Card Policy

 We only offer store credit for Pokemon, no cash. The reason for this dates back 20 years to the first huge surge in Pokemon. At the time, we had a lot of people bringing in collections of Pokemon that obviously had no knowledge of the game. Despite the fact that kids primarily played the game, a lot of older men brought in collections wanting money. In odred to dissuade the likelihood of theft, we started offering only trade on the cards and the number of odler men brining in collections dropped precipitously. 

Given the number of fake Pokemon cards out there now, we opted to keep the policy as, should we trade for a fake card, we are only out the value of the traded cards rather than cash. The only exception would be Pokemon bulk, for which we would offer $5 cash per thousand cards, no Grass or fighting Pokemon though as we have waaaay to many of them.

Comics

 Just a heads up that when you bring in comics to sell or trade to us, we are not going to offer you much on them for a couple of reasons: 1) there is not a huge demand for older comics here in Carbondale. We would generally have to list them online or take them to a comic show in order to move them. you will get far more money if you take the time and list them online or contact a store or website that specializes in comics and needs them. 2) related to number one, comics are not our area of expertise. We are primarily a game store and that is what people come here looking to get. Used boardgames and RPGs and TCGs, sure but back issue comis are a tiny part of our business.

Pokemon Celebrations

 Pokemon Celebrations arrives tomorrow. Much like Shining Fates, the expansion is not sold as single boosters, only in assorted boxes and gift sets. Not sure why Pokemon went this route but sure makes it hard for those people who just want a few packs. 

Haunted Carbondale Walking Tours

 Come take a walk on the dark side of Carbondale Every Friday and Saturday night at 7 p.m. Throughout October. Hear stories of the Rain House, Hundley House, Woodlawn and Oakland Cemetaries. $10 per person, minimum 4 people . Dress for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes. Those 6 and under free with a parent or guardian.

New Player to a Campaign

 had a customer ask about what they should bring as a new player to a game. It is, of course, a good idea to find out what game is played and the average level of the characters.  Bring your own dice, pencil or pen, rulebook (if you have one) and pre-generated character. Bringing your own character means that the players and DM do not have to spend game time waiting for you to create a character. Also, make sure that your character is created from readily available mateirals. If you are playing in a D&D campaign, only use the Players Handbook to create your character, until you learn what the DM wants in their game. Brining in a character that you created using source matieral that you found in the internet often results in a character that does not fit into the campaign.

Sticking with the core rules also means that you do not bring in a race that the DM does not have in their campaign world. Not all DMs allow all character classes or races. it is the DM's world and you need to make sure your characger fits in, at least to start. Once you become more comfortable with the DM's style and they get more comfortable with you, then approach about brining in that cool variante class or race you found in   the Tome of Beasts on or EnWorld.

Orks

 2 new Ork boxed sets and 1 new blister figure arrive tomorrow. We also got in a restock of Start Collecting sets, although once those sell out, we will likely not be able to restock as the Start Collecting Line has gotten replaced by the Combat Patrol sets.
