July 18th New GW Releases

 The new Warhammer: The Old World Core Set offers customers the perfect way for two players to start playing games of Warhammer: The Old World right out of the box. Featuring a force of 22 brand new miniatures for the Warriors of Chaos pitched against an army of 31 Grand Cathay miniatures, this game-in-a-box also contains the Core Rulebook (revised edition) and all the essentials and accessories needed.

The new Battle March General's Companion expands on the core rules and allows customers to play smaller 400-750 point “Battle March” games - a fast-paced and accessible way to play.

FCBD 2027

 Please Universal and Penguin Random House, have your people talk with their people and make one consistent brand for the day.  The industry has spent some 20 years working to brand the day as Free Comic Book Day. Tossing   in Comic Giveaway Day just works to dilute that branding. Granted, most customers do not care. They just care about getting free comics and do not care if it is Free Comic Book Day, Comic Giveaway Day or Make Your Annual Appearance to Get Free Stuff Day but it certainly makes it easier on the stores and precludes the distributors from having to make different posters showing the books offered from each one. Give us one poster showing the top books or the books publishers are willing to pay to have appear on the poster.

Packing slips

 

1.      This is one I have asked for before  I doubt I will see any change.  With every new release, Wizards of the Coast and, to a lesser extent, Konami and The Pokemon Company send us a boxful of promotional materials to use promoting that set. Pokemon sends us dice sets, stickers, promotional cards, and activity cards but no indication as to how they want us to use them.  Similarly, Wizards sends us a box filled with assorted promo cards, posters, pins and this time dice and dice bags with the list of items in the kit and their assorted uses posted on the Wizards website. For pity’s sake, put a list in the box that we can use when we open it to see what we are supposed to get and how Wizards wants us to use it. If that is not feasible (and it should be given that whoever packages the kits manages to get the correct items into it almost all of the time), then how about putting a slip of paper with a QR code printed on it taking us to the page listing the items. If it is too much trouble to change the QR code each time, then keep the link static and change the listing of promotional items on the page as each new kit releases.

Allocations

 

1.      Every brick and mortar retailer with which I have spoken reports getting allocated on Pokemon product while online retailers and streamers seem to have plenty of booster boxes to crack open on camera and to sell. Given that the brick and mortar locations are the ones running events which keep people playing, maybe making sure they have the product which their records indicate they can sell. Given the amount of demand for each new product release, getting new product into the hands of influencers instead of into the hands of stores selling the product would seem to take precedence. I doubt I will see any change

Warhammer 40K Armageddon

 The new Warhammer 40K 11th edition Armageddon set releases this Saturday.  We have enough copies to cover pre-orders and will have some left over for the shelf.  The new core rule book will release on the 27th.  The currently codexes will remain usable for this edition, at least for the forseeable future.

Tables

 We are happy to make our table space available to anyone at no charge but we do ask that, before setting up at a table, you check in at the register to make sure space is available.  We have had several instances of players coming in during the evening, walking past the register and taking a table without checking to see if it will be in use.  This is especially problematic on Tuesdays and Thursdays when we have scheduled miniatures players, who take up 2-4 tables and boardgamers, who take up 1-2 tables. please, check with the staff at the regsiter before setting up on a table. We will do our best to accomodate you.

Customer

We had a couple of reminders this week regarding how long the store has been in business.  One customer brought his grandson in to buy Pokemon cards and told us he remembered bringing his son into the store 25 years or so ago to buy Pokemon here.

Another customer in his early 20s told us he remembered coming into the University Avenue location with his parents and falling asleep in a chair while they played D&D in one of the game rooms at the old location.

Big Muddy Monster Comic

 Brad Moore, cover artist on the Big Muddy Monster comic as well as the Legend of Tuttle Bottoms Comic posing with all three issues, autographed by him and the interior artist on the Big Muddy Monster Books, Nathan Bonner, at no additional charge.

Painting Session

 Remember, Eli hosts a miniatures painting session each Saturday at 5 p.m.  You will need to bring a brush but we will have paints and other tools and can even provide a free figure if you want to practice.
