Today I received the following - and have verified it is real research. It's a bit outside the normal game store research but if spreading the word can help one of my fellow soldiers deal with the images that plague them it's worth sharing the effort. I am formally asking that each of you reading this consider participating and sharing with your customers. Here is the email in its entirety: ***** Hello, Before you delete this email, let me assure you that it is not meant to be annoying spam. This is a legitimate request for research participants in a study being conducted jointly by Athabasca and Grant MacEwan Universities in Alberta, Canada. We are looking for gamers and have found that there is a significant overlap of gamers and comic enthusiasts. We hope you will feel free to pass this information along to any clients, colleagues, or friends who may be interested. The study we are conducting is exploring connections between gaming and lucid dreams (dreams in which the dreamer has control) as a possible means of treating Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder in military personnel. As such we are looking for current or former military members who are also avid gamers. My supervisor, Dr. Jayne Gackenbach, is well-respected in the field of dream research, and it is our hope that this study will yield results that will be helpful to those suffering with PTSD. Access to the anonymous online survey can be found here: http://rsurvey.athabascau.ca//index.php?sid=27288&lang=en There has been significant media coverage of Dr. Gackenbach?s recent work. One of her interviews can be found here: Please feel free to contact me at this email address if you have any questions or require further information. We appreciate any assistance you may be able to offer us in recruiting research participants.
Have a fantastic day! Christie Hall |
