Ennie Award Nominees

The Ennie Awards have pretty much replaced the old Gamers' Choice Awards and focus on the best tabletop games and supplements released during the past year. Unlike the Origins Awards, the Ennies focus on the RPG side of the industry, so no categories for boardgames, wargames or miniatures rules and the minitures category focuses on those porudcts useful to RPG gaming.

Voting for the Ennies starts on July 24 with the winning products and publishers announced at GENCON in August.

Are You the Traitor Review

Are You the Traitor LOO-037 pub by Looney Labs www.looneylabs.com ; Sliding box containing 56 full color cards and directions MSRP $15.00

Gameplay--8 Are You the Traitor is a more elaborate version of Werewolf or Mafia. Character cards are secretly dealt out to 4-10 players, with 2 players gettting Evil or Good Wizard cards, one player each getting the Key Holder or Traitor cards and the other players getting Guard cards. The object of each round is for the Key Holder figure out who the Good Wizard is and give the Key card to them. If the Key Holder is successful, all good players draw a treasure card, otherwise the evil players do. Unlike traditional Werewolf, no players are elminated each round; instead multiple rounds are played with the first player accumulating 10 points in treasure winning. The big problem with AYTT, much like Werewolf or Mafia, is that you need a larger group for effective play.

Trollcon

The store is set up at Trollcon in Little Rock this weekend. The Troll Lords Games guys are regulars at the now in limbo Egyptian Campaign so I thought it was only right to return the favor. Very heavy on Castles and Crusades here.

Official Origins Report

Here's the offficial report on Origins from GAMA:

Thanks for another great Origins Game Fair in Columbus, Ohio! If you had a chance to make it to the event, you were one of over 10 thousand gaming enthusiasts who enjoyed the show. Although attendance numbers were down by approximately 18% from 2008, day-pass ticket sales increased by nearly 16% which means more people were introduced to the hobby this year than ever before.

This year also saw an increase in sponsors for Origins, more vendors in the exhibit hall, expanded open gaming, an impressive Art Show and Art College, and many other great events and seminars. Special thanks to the 250 volunteers who offered their time and talent to this year’s event. Without their assistance, the Origins Game Fair would not be possible.

New Arrivals

Several new items arrived yesterday. We got in the first issues of Captain America Reborn and Marvel Divas, as well as the DVG version of Modern Naval Battles, a great card/strategy game that has been out of print for far too long. Friday we expect the arrival of the new PlanetStrike expansion book for Warhammer 40k, as well as three new pieces of terrain for the game.
